Sheryl Hom | Creative Director
Sheryl Hom is an award-winning Writer, Creative Director and Marketing Consultant who combines Hawaii and Mainland advertising/PR experience with proven expertise in brand and event marketing, Web development, print and broadcast work.
Her Hawaii background has been extensive including 12 years with two of the largest advertising agencies in Honolulu. As senior writer at Milici Valenti Advertising, Sheryl wrote and produced print and television campaigns for the Hawaii Visitors Bureau, First Hawaiian Bank, First Insurance Company and McDonalds Hawaii. As Vice President/Creative Director of Starr Seigle McCombs, she was the principal writer for Bank of Hawaii, Hawaiian Airlines, Anheuser-Busch, Nissan-Hawaii, as well as the Halekulani Hotel. She has won over 45 Hawaii Advertising Federation awards including top Pele honors and regional Best in the West awards. Her creative campaigns have also been featured in Communication Arts magazine.
Sheryl's next move took her to Los Angeles where she became the Creative Director at a small, edgy advertising agency in Southern California. Her outside-the-box image campaigns for ITT-Cannon, brought global brand awareness to the interconnector manufacturer. She also wrote print ads and produced TV spots for Ellesse designer sportswear, the Rusty Pelican restaurants and the Southern California dealerships for Ferrari, Aston Martin and Jaguar automobiles.
Although the Mainland gave her the experience to hone her skills, Hawaii has given her the heart to touch audiences young and old. Her memorable "Harry and Myra" television commercials for Bank of Hawaii ran for eight straight years due to popular demand.
In 2011 Sheryl's overall conceptual work and creative messaging for Hawaiian Telcom's Always On campaign again resonated with local residents and revitalized the telecommunications leader across the islands.
The following year, she helped set the stage for the re-emergence of the iconic Kaka'ako district by creating its overall brand messaging and writing its signature brochure. The stunning 30-page showpiece for Kamehameha Schools targets potential residents and retail tenants, positioning 21st Century Kaka'ako as the new urban epicenter of Honolulu.
Sheryl's work for Hitachi Japan helped brand the multi-million dollar U.S./Japan smart grid pilot project on Maui. Her video on the project is currently being shown in different countries as part of Hitachi's Social Innovation efforts around the world.
Sheryl specializes in creative branding concepts and crisp, compelling copy. She consults and writes for a broad range of clients from non-profits to renewable energy companies, visitor industry to commercial developers. She is also retained by the Maui Economic Development Board to develop ongoing outreach solutions for key statewide initiatives, including STEMworks, Island Energy and GeoTech programs.
